I attended the Cork College of Commerce and found the IPAV course an excellent gateway into the property industry. The spread of subjects delivered provided a broad scope of real estate knowledge, which provided me with many career options within and around the industry. Once I completed my degree, I undertook post graduate research into Commercial Real Estate Auctions. I currently work at the University of Glamorgan, just outside Cardiff, as a Senior Lecturer in Real Estate. My role here is Award Leader for the Real Estate Awards as well as teaching on the Valuation, Economics and Personal Development modules.

I completed the IPAV Certificate & Diploma courses followed by the BSc in Estate Management Surveying degree at the University of Glamorgan, Wales. I would recommend the IPAV programme to any student wishing to work in any of the various areas of the property industry. I started my career in Auctioneering and moved into other areas of Sales and Management. My current role as Property Advertising Manager with the Irish Examiner illustrates that this course provides a very good grounding for the modern day property market.

IPAV has a very flexible path of education that offers a certificate, diploma and degree option within a 4 year time frame. I found the course very interesting over the four years and I think that it has benefited me in many areas outside of the property industry. Like all professions you can’t just walk into it bit I was always confident at what I did as I felt I had a very good grounding as a result of the degree course.

Having completed my degree in estate management surveying I immediately began work in a full time capacity with the firm of Waterford auctioneers that I completed my work experience with two years earlier. Approximately 18 months after this I interviewed for a job as senior negotiator with Douglas Newman Good. I received this job and shortly progressed to the role of manager and then Associate Director. I currently am Manager of DNG's Stillorgan Branch, dealing with some of South Dublin's most spectacular properties. I am also in the process of completing my APC with the Society of Chartered Surveyors.
