Affiliation & Membership

The Institute of Professional Auctioneers and Valuers was established in 1971 as a professional representative association for auctioneers, estate agents and valuers.

It has nominating rights to Seanad Eireann and exists to promote and protect standards among property professionals engaged in the valuation, sale and management of real estate. In this way it also provides protection for the consumer.

Membership of IPAV confers status on the property professional and provides access to fellow professionals in Europe through IPAV’s affiliation with the Confederation of European Estate Agents. Furthermore:

  • It is an effective and efficient way to learn about the profession
  • It provides an opportunity to network with other professionals in Ireland and throughout the EU
  • It also performs a vital role in keeping members up to date with current issues affecting practice.

Professional associations exist to promote and protect standards through codes of ethics and in this way act as a watchdog for the consumer

IPAV Promotes Professional Standards in the following way:

  1. Providing education and training for prospective practitioners
  2. Accrediting existing courses in property
  3. Co-operating with and entering into partnerships with Institutions to develop education programmes appropriate to the industry.
  4. Liaising and interacting with other professional associations to promote best practice
  5. Providing continuous professional development seminars
  6. Publishing an annual Yearbook and Diary and quarterly magazine to keep members up to date with developments, events and other member companies
  7. Publishing information about employment and professional opportunities
  8. Organising an annual conference where an opportunity to network and learn is provided.
  9. Lobbying with government on issues affecting the industry

IPAV has worked very strenuously over the years to provide an opportunity for those wishing to enter the industry to have access to a top quality education.

Affiliation to a professional association that is young, vibrant and willing to embrace change by recognising the value of well educated recruits to the profession is essential.
